A dental crown is a custom-made restoration that can be fit over a single tooth to completely refinish it. Dental crowns are typically made of porcelain (or porcelain bonded to metal) because it is a strong and durable material, and it can be created in the natural colours of the teeth. Crowns are sometimes also created as a “standalone” tooth to be used as part of a dental bridge or dental implant. If you have cracked, stained, chipped, broken, or missing teeth, ask our dentists at Tuscany Dental Centre if dental crowns could be right for you.
Fitting Dental Crowns
In order to fit dental crowns, our dentists will need to see you at least twice. In the first appointment, we will prepare the natural tooth by removing some of the enamel. Then, we will take digital impressions of your tooth or teeth to gain precise measurements so the crown can be designed and manufactured perfectly. Our dentists will provide you with a temporary crown while your permanent crown is manufactured in a professional dental laboratory. Within two weeks, we will be able to switch the temporary crown for the permanent one and secure it in place for a long-lasting restoration.
The Benefits of Dental Crowns
Dental crowns can be used to achieve several requirements at once. First, they can strengthen the natural tooth, providing a protective cover that can last several decades. Second, they can offer people with damaged teeth a simple way to restore the bite and keep chewing comfortably. And finally, dental crowns can be used to cosmetically enhance the look of a single tooth or the whole smile, with the ability to match or improve the look of the natural teeth.
