Bright and happy smiles are made brighter and happier with preventative dental care that aims at protecting the teeth from wear and tear. One of the most common preventative and restorative treatments we offer at Tuscany Dental Centre is dental fillings. We strive to make every filling appointment comfortable, regardless of the age of the patient. Our experienced dentists and dental hygienists will explain what we are doing at all stages, check in with you, and provide you with medication to manage pain and discomfort.
Safe and Effective Treatment for Cavities
Cavities (holes) in the teeth occur when substances that build up on the teeth wear down the protective enamel and begin to eat away at the teeth. A filling stops this process in its tracks by filling in the hole with a strong, tooth-like material. This also reinforces the structure of the tooth. Fillings have been used for many years in dentistry and are safe and effective. The technology continues to evolve, allowing us to apply fillings more comfortably and use more beautiful, strong, and effective materials. However, if you suffer from anxiety or experience fear about going to the dentist, ask us about your options for sedation dentistry.
Types of Fillings We Offer
The team of dental professionals here at Tuscany Dental Centre knows that it’s important for our patients to have options in their dental treatment. We offer a variety of dental fillings at our Calgary dental offices, including:
- Composite fillings, which are tooth-coloured and often used for aesthetic purpose
- Amalgam fillings, which are very long-lasting and made of a combination of metals
Our role is to provide you with the information you need to make a decision about your dental restorations. If you have questions about your options, talk to our experienced dental team!
Inlays and Onlays
Although most people are familiar with dental crowns, a lesser-known restorative treatment option includes inlays and onlays. Inlays and onlays have less coverage than a dental crown, covering and replacing only the occlusal surface (the topmost portion of a tooth that is used to bite). In many cases, our dentists will suggest inlays or onlays for teeth that are too damaged to be repaired by dental fillings or dental bonding, but not so damaged that a full crown is needed.
What to Expect
Inlays and onlays are constructed in nearly the same way a dental crown is constructed. At your first visit, your tooth will be prepared (often by removing a portion of the natural tooth so that the inlay/onlay can be fitted). We will provide you with a temporary restoration while your permanent restoration is being manufactured. At your second appointment, the permanent inlay or onlay will be installed. After this, our dentists will provide you with simple care instructions that will include at-home dental hygiene and regular dental examinations.
Restorative Dentistry Options
Finding the right fit for your dental restoration is important to us. Tuscany Dental Centre offers a wide variety of options depending on the specific level of decay or damage your tooth has suffered. This helps us use a minimalistic approach to your dental care, providing only what is necessary to improve and protect your health. It also allows us to provide you with more options in terms of longevity, required aftercare, affordability, and aesthetics.
