Oral and maxillofacial surgery may be required for a number of reasons, from cleft palate surgery to tooth extractions. Although most dental issues can be rectified without the need for surgery, there are some cases in which surgery will provide the best possible outcomes. The dental care team at Tuscany Dental Centre can provide simple tooth extractions. However, for more complex surgical needs, we provide patients with referrals to a specialized oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
Tooth extractions may be required for a number of reasons, including overcrowded teeth, severely decayed or damaged teeth, or poorly positioned teeth. On the other hand, removing even one tooth can be problematic because it may cause other shifts in the mouth or difficulty with normal activities. Our dental team is highly aware of the need for a balance between surgical intervention and other treatment options. If surgery is recommended, we will also provide alternatives to extraction, as well as restorative options for replacing the missing tooth or teeth if surgery is necessary.
What to Expect
Oral surgery is always completed as a last resort after other, less invasive treatment options have been explored. However, if surgery is necessary, it is always completed with a focus on a patient’s immediate comfort and long-term wellbeing in mind. You will be provided with pain medication, and if necessary, you may also be provided with sedation to help you relax throughout the procedure. Aftercare instructions will also be provided to help you heal at home. If you have questions about extractions or dental surgery, please contact our team directly to learn more.
