What Are Dental X-Rays?

At Tuscany Dental Centre, we use digital radiography (x-rays) to take detailed images of your teeth and mouth. These images can show wisdom teeth, cavities, and bone loss that can’t be seen in a regular visual dental examination. They are essential in the diagnosis of dental issues such as cavities, tooth removal, and orthodontic alignment. We also use x-rays to plan treatments, such as root canals.

Types of Dental X-Rays

There are many types of dental x-rays we can use to see your teeth and mouth. Some of the most typical types of x-rays we may take include:

• Periapical x-rays, which are focused on the teeth below and above the gum line.
• Bitewing x-rays, which can reveal issues in the alignment of the teeth, as well as tooth decay and bone loss.
• Occlusal x-rays, which are focused on the bottom of your mouth and can show teeth that have not erupted yet (such as growing wisdom teeth).
• Panoramic x-rays, which take detailed images of the lower face region and can detect fractures, bone changes, jaw joints, and more.
